Bennie Gene Graves

LaCenter, KY Bennie Gene Graves, age 88, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Life Care in LaCenter, KY. Born and raised in Ballard County, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp before settling down outside of LaCenter, doing what he loved most, dairy farming. He often said that the first thing he did every day was thank God for allowing him to be a farmer. He and his family were recognized as the Kentucky Farm Family of the year in 1975. When he retired from dairy farming, he still enjoyed tending a small herd of cows and growing hay. With the new-found free time that came from not milking cows twice a day, he added growing pecan trees, roses and mowing grass to his interests, along with walking his loyal canine friend, Biscuit. In addition, he worked for Several yeas as an escort at USEC and served as Master Commissioner for Ballard County for over 35 years. He also enjoyed many happy trips to Branson, Missouri with friends and family. Bennie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a dedicated member of LaCenter Christian Church, where he served as Elder and Trustee. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nancy (Moore) Graves, to whom he lovingly referred as “Miz Nancy”, his children; Mike graves and wife Cindy, of Murray, KY, Gwen Roddye and husband (Mac) of Knoxville, TN; Greg Graves and wife Laura of LaCenter, Six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two brothers, Howard Graves of LaCenter and Dewey Graves of Florida, one sister Shirley Vaughn of Goodletsville, TN. Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mina (Thomas) Graves, one sister, Ruby Gaines; two brothers J.T. Graves and Maurice Graves; one great-grandaughter Hannah Graves and his faithful companion, Biscuit. Visitation will be Monday, September 16, 2019 after 4:30 p.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter, KY. Funeral Services will be Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Brian Overstreet officiating. The family wishes to thank the the nurses and staff at Life Care and Mercy Health Hospice for their care and compassion.
