LaCenter, KY, It is with great sadness that the family of Charles “Shorty” Cooper announces his passing after a long illness, on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in Lexington, Kentucky at the age of 86 years. Shorty will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Fondaw Cooper and his daughter and son-in-law, Fonda and Richard Hinkley. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, R. Jeffrey (Beth) Hinkley and Jennifer H. Pruden, and his four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Katie, Spencer and Tyler. Shorty is also survived by his siblings, Mildred Duley, Danny (Charlotte) Cooper, Dick (Denise) Cooper and Susie (Jerry) Murray and numerous nieces and nephews. Shorty was born May 5, 1932, in Ballard County, Kentucky, to the late Bennie Hahs Cooper and Vivian Dixon Herring Cooper. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill, Bob, Ann, Joe and Sally. Shorty was a 1950 graduate of Bandana High School, where he was a star basketball player for the Bandana Yellow Jackets. He always had a love for sports, was an avid UK Wildcat fan and enjoyed watching his great-grandchildren play sports. Shorty worked for Orkin Pest Control and retired after 44 years of service. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Besides his love of sports, he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, being outdoors and working in his yard. Visitation for Shorty will be held at 11:00 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter, Kenntucky, with the funeral service to follow at 1:00p.m. with Reverend Neil Eidson officiating.
