Joan Elizabeth Phillips, 61, of Paducah, passed away on September 1, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side. She was born to James Winsett and the late Mary Taylor, May 24, 1958, in Memphis, TN. Joan graduated from Ballard Memorial High School in 1977. Joan is survived by her two children: Christopher Franks and Jordyn Phillips, both currently residing in Montezuma, CO. Grandsons: Hunter Franks, Houston Franks, and Brody Rittenberry. Siblings: Aronda Doom and Jimmy Winsett. And father: James Winsett. Joan was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Taylor, in 2017. Joan was a loving mother and Mimi who was immensely proud of her family, as they were hands down the center of her world. She had a quirky and sarcastic sense of humor, that only those who truly knew her would understand. She was strong willed and independent from a very young age. A track star and cheerleader in high school, and a devout single teenage mother and business professional through her twenties. She remained a stay-at-home mom through her later years. She was beautiful- inside and out, spunky, smart, athletic, outspoken, an animal lover, avid lover of music, and quite the cook in the kitchen. She had courage and fight in her like non-other, and was truly a force to be reckoned with. Her smile and personality would light up any room she entered and always left a lasting impression on those she came in contact with. She was also a very spiritual woman who was very much into her Cherokee heritage. Joan will be finally laid to rest when her ashes are spread through out the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, following a traditional Native American ceremony, held on sacred land, currently being organized by her son and daughter. Should you have interest in attending or participating in this ceremony, feel free to reach out to Chris or Jordyn, as they would love to have you in attendance. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Paducah, KY. The family has requested that donations be made to https://www.shatterproof.org/memorial/joan-phillips, if you feel compelled to, in lieu of flowers and gifts.
