Shirley Sue Hundley

Shirley Sue Hundley, 83 of Paducah, Kentucky passed peacefully at her residence on Monday, September 30, 2019. Ms. Hundley was born on February 3, 1936 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to the late Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Hundley. Shirley’s childhood was full of memories in Southern Illinois on the family farm with her parents, her brothers, and her sister. Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Vienna High School in Vienna, Illinois. Shirley was an active teen. She was a cheerleader, track team member, and also a member of the music department. To her, graduating high school with a music scholarship was one of her greatest accomplishments. After high school, she married Donald Gene Emery and worked as a teller at Grover State Bank. Donald and Shirley welcomed three children into the world, Terry, Tracy, and Dale. Shirley made her home in Paducah, KY and began working for Crounse Corporation as their secretary / treasurer. She worked for Crounse Corporation for many years then relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana to continue work in the river industry. With the birth of her first grandchild, Ms. Hundley returned home to Paducah, KY. In her prime years, she loved all things tennis. Shirley did work in the community for Paducah Parks and Recreation, the Kentucky Tennis Association, and the United States Tennis Association to volunteer and advocate for the love of the game. She could be found watching ESPN, cheering on the wildcats, or reading her favorite thriller novel. Shirley loved her family beyond words. Shirley is preceded in death by her daughter, Terry Gail Bowland; a sister, Surilda Hundley; a brother, Dion Hundley; and her parents, Winfield and Wanda Hundley. Shirley leaves behind her legacy and many loved ones. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy DeFreitas and son Dale Bowland of Paducah, KY. One granddaughter, Lindsey Wells (Clay) of Sturgis, KY; two grandsons, Scott Bowland (Amanda) of Linwood, NJ and Justin DeFreitas (Brittany) of Paducah, KY. Two great-grandsons, Will and Garrett Wells of Sturgis, KY; three great-granddaughters, Kinleigh Bowland of Linwood, NJ, Emma Beard and Ava DeFreitas of Paducah, KY; two brothers, Monty Hundley (Mary) of IL and Chuck Hundley (Gula) of FL.  A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 after 4pm with service at 6 pm in the upstairs event room of Shandies on Broadway in Paducah, KY. A private burial will be held at Wise-Robinson Cemetery in Vienna, IL.
