Thurman Eugene Shumaker

Wickliffe, KY. Thurman Eugene Shumaker, age 72, died on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:50 p.m. at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Thurman taught High School Science in Ballard County, McCracken County, and Carlisle County, KY as well as Pope County, IL. He also, was the Guidance Counselor at Carlisle and Pope County. He was a High School assistant football coach. Thurman was a volunteer fireman for Barlow and Blandville Fire Departments. He also was a member of the Ballard County Rescue Squad. He was a member of Wickliffe Masonic Lodge #625. Thurman was an avid golfer and was a member of Ballard County Country Club. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He was well known for making sorghum. He loved to hunt wild game in particular deer and turkey. In the summers he also enjoyed fishing with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Sandra Shumaker of Wickliffe, KY., step-mother Mildred Shumaker of Princeton, KY., three daughters Kimberly Ann Randle (Laverne) of Nashville, TN., Karen M Serrate (Hoverth) of Batavia, IL., Sandra "Genie" Haynes (D.J.) of Barlow, KY. One brother Mark Shumaker of Lebanon, KY., two sisters
Grace Lawhorn of Lebanon, TN. and Ruth Shumaker of Princeton, KY. Nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother Roy Michael Shumaker and his parents Rufus and Sammie Shumaker.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 25th, 2017 after 11:00 a.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter, KY.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 25th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter, Ky. with the Rev. Mark Sickling and Dr. Greg Rodgers officiating.
