Obituary

Long time radio DJ, Kurt David Engelhardt of La Center, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at the age of 71 with his daughter Victoria singing to him by his side.

Kurt was born in Bloomington, IL on September 30, 1952 to the late Douglas G. Engelhardt and Charlotte A. Engelhardt. Known as "Kurt David", he rocked the radio airways across Kentucky from the age of 16 until his death. Most recently known for his show 'Takin' Ya Back' which broadcasts locally on Great Oldies 99.1 WCBL and internationally on multiple social media platforms. After moving to Paducah, KY in 1974, Kurt started working at WDXR, WKYX and then transitioned to WPSD for the next ten years. Kurt enjoyed helping with many aspects of the Lion's Club Telethon for over a decade. He also worked as a DJ at WDDJ 97 FM and WZZL 105.5 FM in the 1990s. Kurt also owned his own production company, "Angelheart Productions". He retired working from Murray State University in 2019. Kurt loved all music genres, UK Basketball and the Boston Celtics. Kurt was a faithful member of Grace Church of La Center.

He is survived by his daughters, Korrie Purcell (Brian) of Kevil, KY and Victoria Engelhardt of Berkeley, CA; two grandsons, Mason Purcell and Bobby Purcell of Kevil, KY; ex-wife, Cindy Engelhardt of Kevil, KY; ex-wife, Tina Story of Benton, KY; brother, Stephen Engelhardt (Diane) of Bloomsbury, PA; sisters, Kyna Engelhardt Ransom (Mark) of Sheridan, CO and Leslie Levey (Alan) of Aurora, CO and multiple nieces and nephews across the country.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life for Kurt will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Morrow Funeral Chapel in La Center with Brother Tyler Bird officiating. The family requests guests to wear either a music/band, UK basketball or Boston Celtics attire.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Morrow Funeral Chapel.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude or to Grace Church of La Center Worship Team.

Morrow Funeral Chapel of La Center is in charge of arrangements.
