Obituary

LaCenter, KY, Roy Steele, age 88, passed away on April 4, 2025, at Countryside Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. He was born on September 11, 1936, in Gage, Ky, to his late parents, John Steele and Carleen Brown.

Roy was best known for his 50 years of owning & operating Roy's Used Cars & Towing Service. He also sold Midwest Grain Truck Beds & Holmes Wreckers for 15years. We often joked that Dad could sell anything to anyone because he was "one heck of a salesman!" Roy was a beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, & Great Grandpa & his absence will be greatly missed! Dad was the teacher in our family. He taught us all the meaning of love of family, hard work, & giving back to our community. He had a great passion for community service.

Dad was a proud founding member & chief of both La Center Rural & La Center City fire departments for 20 years. Along with his fellow firefighters, he proudly started many community service acts to give back to the community, including stringing the 1st Christmas lights across Broadway intersections in La Center, delivering fruit baskets in La Center to all widows & widowers at Christmas, & collecting money donations in their fire boots at roadblocks for the Lions Club Telethon.

Another community service tradition Dad started was the business advertising on the placemats at the Bluegrass Restaurant in La Center which is a tradition they still continue today. Community service was very important to Dad & something he inspired all of us to continue. Dad's favorite hobby was quail hunting with his prized bird dogs.

He is survived by one son, Michael Earl Steele (Brenda) of LaCenter; two daughters, Faynetta Todd (Leon) of Bardwell, KY and Carla Michelle Grubbs (Corey) of LaCenter; three grandchildren, Ethan Michael Steele (Meaghan), Jonathan Andrew Steele, and Holly Roseanne Hammon (Bri) and four great grandchildren.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife Jackie Lee Steele, one brother at birth, his parents and one grandson, Trevor Ray Doom.

Visitation Service will be held at Morrow Funeral Chapel on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
