KEVIL, KY: Thomas Albert Brooking of Kevil, born February 21, 1942, passed away August 29, 2015, at Baptist Health of Paducah. He is survived by his wife of 49 years and 11 months, Linda Honchell Brooking, his son, Samuel Albert Brooking (Lorie) of Kevil, his daughter, Lee Kristine Sinclair (Chris) of Kenosha, Wisconsin, granddaughters, Sydney Brooking and Madelynn Sinclair, and Kaela Pope, grandsons Riley, Trevor, and Will Sinclair and great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Zoey, Kali, Adrien, and Dylan.
Tom is also survived by six beloved siblings, Mary Shaw (Bob)of Paducah, Jim Brooking (Margot) of Kevil, Judy Long (Gary) of Metropolis, Betty Jo Darnell (David) of Adolphus, Ky, Jane Flint (Rod) of Kevil, and Mike Brooking (Suzanne) of St. George, Utah. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he loved and who loved him dearly.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ferry Mae Brooking and granddaughter, Karie.
Tom took great pride in his service to his community and to his country as a U.S. Army military police officer.
Tom had a lifelong love of horses. He would often be seen leading a horse with a young rider through the fields for their first riding experience. Tom kept horses and tack in every size for all the grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Tom enjoyed taking folks on carriage rides recounting tales of community and family ancestry. He also liked nothing better than a rousing political discussion.
Tom never stopped working, but he was never too busy to lend a helping hand for any and all problems.
In recent years Tom devoted his (spare) time to locating and restoring historic cemeteries with the Cemetery Restoration in Western Kentucky.
Tom was a retired electrician from the VMV Enterprises (ICG Railroad).
Visitation will be from 6:00 -8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1 at Morrow Funeral Chapel of LaCenter. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 2 at Morrow Funeral Chapel. Tom will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery close to his parents and grandparents.
