Obituary

Tommye Cooper passed away just one week before his 86th birthday on May 10, 2024. He was born on May 17, 1938, to Clarence and Lois Cooper. He was the youngest of six siblings who grew up on a large dairy farm, Coopland Farms, in La Center, Kentucky. He married Agnes in 1961, earned a PhD from the University of Kentucky, and started a career with the USDA in Washington, DC. Tommye and Agnes had 3 children: Debbie, Curtis, and Brady.

Thanks to his intelligence, education, and good work ethic, he earned a top leadership role in Washington DC. Since Tommye was such a modest man, a lot of people don't know that he was a very accomplished, highly respected leader in his field worldwide. He worked all over the world as a computer specialist from Alaska, Portugal, Rome, to Egypt. His excellence took him and his family to Colorado in 1973 to start the biggest data center at the time, to the Middle East, and back to the Washington DC area allowing him and his family to travel the world. They lived in Saudi Arabia for 2 years and visited 5 of the 7 continents!

As accomplished as he was at his career, Tommye was an amazing and loyal husband to Agnes. They were loyal companions for almost 58 years. Tommye and Agnes loved Jesus and Southern Gospel Music, and frequently enjoyed going to concerts and taking Southern Gospel Quartet cruises.

He was also an amazing father who loved and supported his kids his entire life, no matter what. Family was always paramount to him. Even as his children grew up, he greatly valued organizing get togethers to keep his family close. This continued up to his very last days as he helped plan his granddaughter Anna's wedding, days before his passing.

Tommye was a very smart, accomplished man, and he was very proud of his roots in Kentucky. When he visited the family farm, he was always anxious to jump back into farm work. He has traveled to many lands, and now he makes his final journey home.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra (Weejen), son, Curtis (Melissa); grandchildren Samantha, Abigail, Jonah, Anna (Trevor), and Kaylee; great-grandson, Elliott, and a great-grandson on the way; brother, Ed (Dorothy).

Tommye is reunited with his wife Agnes; son, Brady; two brothers, Johnny (Eleanor) and Jack (Merlene); two sisters, Dot (Van) and Carolyn (Chalen).
