Michael Purvis Obituary

Barlow, KY, Michael Shannon Purvis took his last breath on this earth and his first breath in the presence of Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Shannon was born to his parents Harold and Jackie Purvis, big brother Gene Purvis and big sister Lisa Purvis-Laster on October 5, 1969. He was a member of Barlow First Baptist Church in Barlow, KY.

He was a 1989 graduate from Ballard Memorial High School, and an avid athlete. He was a basketball player for the Barlow Bobcats, Ballard County Middle School and Ballard Memorial High School. Shannon was also a talented musician and loved playing guitar and drums in his studio with many close friends.

Shannon was a man of immense humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment he spent with his loved ones. He was a protector of his family and loved them fiercely. His love and laughter touched the hearts of everyone around him. But most of all, he was a true witness sharing Gods Word with everyone he crossed paths with. He was a pillar of strength and a beacon of love. His absence leaves a void in our hearts, but also a joy in his journey with God.

Shannon is survived by his true love and wife of 29 years, Greta Hack-Purvis of Barlow; his loving parents Harold and Jackie Purvis of Barlow; his brother Gene Purvis of Barlow; his sister and brother-in-law Lisa and Mike Laster of Kevil; his mother-in-law Linda Bruneau of Barlow; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Samantha and Calvin Hall of Paducah; brother-in-law, Eric Miller (Karna Faglier) of Fort Myers, Florida; nieces, Courtney (Zack) Tanner of Barlow and McKinsey Laster (Kullen Crider) of Paducah; nephews, Tyler (Hannah) Wildharber of Bandana, Blake (Chelsea) Guffy of Paducah, Jake Guffy of Paducah, Devan (Chelsey) Guffy of Barlow, Dylan Miller of Fort Myers, Florida; great-nieces, Leah Doke of Barlow, Ellie Wildharber of Bandana, Harper Guffy of Paducah, Maci Guffy of Barlow; great-nephews Krue Crider of Paducah and Mason Guffy of Barlow, and a close family of Aunts, cousins and so many wonderful friends, who will all continue to honor his legacy.

Shannon was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Mary Lena Mitchell-Crabtree, maternal grandfather John Crabtree, paternal grandparents Herbert and Lonetta Purvis, Uncles Jimmie and Donnie Purvis, Aunts Judy Doublin and Juanita Douglas, cousins Leah Purvis and Bryan Terrell, and father-in-law Billy T.
